Orkney Arts and Crafts is a group of artists and crafters living and working in various media in Orkney.
We are professional basket makers living in Central Scotland between Stirling and Perth. We produce hand made basketry of traditional and contemporary design from natural, coloured willow that we grow organically. Growing the willow is an integral part of our making process; cutting by hand and drying and grading the harvest gives such an intimate connection with our raw material that it truly inspires us.
Useful and beautiful objects turned in wood, sometimes decorated with carving, colour or texture.
I try to get the best out of each piece of wood, to develop a sympathetic shape that will endure and enhance the beauty of the material.
Pip Weaser’s baskets are grown and made in Kilmelford, Argyll, Scotland. She creates contemporary woven objects from locally grown willow and other woods and plant fibres. Using traditional hedgerow basketry techniques and indigenous and cultivated local materials, she works with the natural colours and scent of grasses, leaves, flowers, twigs, creepers and climbers, to create individual contemporary forms ranging from the functional to the purely sculptural.
Rankin Kinsman-Blake creates beautiful, unique spoons and spatulas hand carved from a range of Scottish Borders hardwoods. His work can be see at Kinsman-Blake Ceramics/Gallery (Smailholm, Scottish Borders)
Rarebird named after the elusive Corncrake is the creation of Paulette Brough.
