It was while working alongside Farriers in the Agriculture Industry, that I realised the potential that Blacksmithing had for creating functional, contemporary work.
Since then I have been working on combining these traditional skills with my original training as a sculptor to create new work.
Although I have used organic forms as a starting point for some of my work I often let the materials I’m using, and how it can be worked, dictate the final outcome of each idea.
I'm from the Northeast of Scotland. I design/make contemporary styled bowls and vases from glass and wood: the wood I turn or make on a CNC machine myself and the glass is made by local crafts persons.
Whimsical ceramics with a potent nod towards 1950s design and nostalgia. Cosima enjoys combining contrasting ideas and focusing on designs that delight both the aesthetic and intellectual senses.
Birds and surface pattern adorn Cosima's work which triggers a romantic and kindred sensation in her audience.
My location is in the village of Strontian, 25 miles south west of Fort William, where you will find my workshop and outlet.
Different styles and types of walking stick can be seen. I also make sticks to your requirements and specifications using wood, horn and some liquid plastics.
