Designs Gallery is South West Scotland's leading gallery for contemporary art and design led crafts. Well known for exhibiting and supporting the work of many regional and international artists and makers, the gallery has a diverse annual programme of changing exhibitions.
The programme of exhibitions for this year includes ceramics, tin automata, furniture, paintings, willow sculpture, silver work and jewellery. There is a permanent collection of jewellery, studio glass, ceramics, wood and textiles on show all year round.
The light, spacious gallery provides a great venue in which to spend time enjoying the work. Designs Cafe downstairs serves excellent food, and with additional space in the conservatory and walled garden it is an ideal place to visit.
I make pictures using freehand machine embroidery, using an ancient treadle Singer machine. I use the needle as my 'pencil' and 'sketch' around pieces of cut out fabric to add perspective and texture to my pictures. I put the pictures in frames or on cushions, t-shirts, whatever takes my fancy! It's scribbely, sketchy and spontaneous!
