I make timber structures using traditional and contemporary techniques. My designs are unique and tailored to suit individual commissions. Much of what I make is of a large scale and constructed using green oak. Completed work includes tree-benches, lych gates, sculptural objects, play areas, stage sets and bridges.
Cutting the wood into thin slices, often across the grain reveals the maximum richness, I construct forms where the resultant sequence, is the focus in sculpture, featured in boxes and vessels or a detail in furniture. With an allusion to movement or softness I juxtaposition textures, colour and form, introducing with other joining materials the illusion of precariousness or tenuousness. / I work functionally and creatively, speculatively and to commission, for private or commercial clients and galleries from the workshop which I established in 1984.
