In Japan, paper is a traditional crafts material, with a naturalistic and organic character. Now based in Edinburgh, I make contemporary jewellery which combines washi, handmade Japanese paper, with other materials such as precious metal and thread. Washi forms the centre-point of my pieces, shaped and supported by the other materials, and either left unadorned to emphasise its texture or painted in inks to explore the interplay of form and colour.
