Inner Strength is a fashion design company specialising in lingerie, loungewear and accessories. My work consists predominantly of corsets and pants, which I design and hand-make myself. My corsets are steel boned and can transform almost any figure. I manipulate and embellish fabrics to be used in my garments and virtually every piece is a one-off.
I work with Fibre, Using many textile techniques - weaving, netting, knotting, coiling etc, into woven tapestries, 3-D sculptural forms and small decorative baskets. I also make paper which is made into books, and combined with other natural materials and fibres to make constructed textile pieces.
Batik is an ancient craft for designing on cloth using wax as a dye-resist. With modern dyes, many unusual effects can be achieved. I like to use the traditional Indonesian batik tools - tjanting, brushes and cotton material which is produced in Java especially for the production of batik. My work is influenced by the colours and textures of the local Highland landscape and I produce wallhangings and framed pictures using a variety of batik techniques.
