Graham Muir - Glass

Graham, who trained at Edinburgh College of Art, set up his own studio in 1999 after teaching hot glass for nine years at Sunderland University.

His aim is to make beautiful glass, the type of beauty that draws you in and keeps you there.  He writes:

‘Such work speaks quietly of the harmony between maker and the medium.  It is often the result of a path that involves many failed attempts but results in a piece all the stronger for that, where nothing needs neither added nor taken away.’

The starting point for his work is the conversation between the maker and the material.  The maker has the idea and the medium responds to this, so starting a discussion.  In ’wave’ he wanted to convey at once both the beauty and often frightening power of nature.

His ideas have moved away from traditional glassmaking as he has developed new techniques, experimenting with complex cut and carved forms which reflect and complement the imagery he uses.

His work is sold at selected galleries across the UK.
