Sara Keith

Sara uses the ancient art of shibori to create her exquisite textiles. She trained under Yoshiko Wada, widely recognised as the most influential practitioner of Shibori in the world today, and then enhanced these skills under the Master Craftsmen of Arimatsu, the home of Shibori in Japan.

Silver Wishes is a large wall hanging of metallic textile panels, made using a combination of resist techniques and electrolysis. The inspiration was prayer motifs written on strips on paper which hang outside Japanese temples, an idea also found in Scottish traditions. She expressed the idea of writing down wishes by using a shibori technique to make little marks on the fabric.

This work won the Silver Prize in the Fiber Works category at the 4th Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2005, where Sara was one of only six UK makers among the 264 selected to exhibit.
