Jessica Townsend - Glass

Jessica is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where she completed a Masters degree in 2005.

Her recent work is influenced by the idea of perfection as described in the following quote:

“The perfect face, the perfect breasts, the perfect home! All women strive for perfection – in a search for perfection are we losing a grasp of reality?”

Germaine Greer, The Whole Woman (London, 2002)

Discussing the suspended hanging boxes, which are from her Masters degree show, she says “My work emerges from my life experiences; I use these to make a personal comment using the physical properties of glass as an instigator. For these works I used family experiences as a starting point and researched areas such as feminism, psychology, play therapy and philosophy in order to gain a greater understanding.”

She was a finalist for the Bombay Sapphire Prize 2005 for her work Homage to the Implant which is on show in the Bombay Sapphire Blue Room at the Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Glasgow G1 3NU until 8 March 2006.

She exhibited in New Designers and the Bombay Sapphire Student Martini Glass exhibition in 2004.
