Lizzie Farey creates baskets, vases and sculptural pieces from willow which she grows, harvests and stores herself in her home in Castle Douglas.
She trained at Cardiff College of Art and her aim is to create simple, beautiful objects and to introduce more people to the beauty of willow.
In 2004 she won the BBC Homes & Antiques magazine’s inaugural ‘Talent Around Britain’ £5,000 bursary award. She was one of only 12 craftspeople from around the UK featured in the competition and she was voted winner by both the readers and a panel of judges.
She was selected to exhibit at Chelsea Crafts Fair in London for the first time in 2004 and created a selection of baskets especially for the event including a new range using gold and silver leaf, inspired following a residency at Cove Park where she exchanged ideas with jeweller Sarah Keay.
She completed a large piece of sculpture for Chelsea Flower Show in May 2005.
She has been selected to sell her work at Origin: the London Craft Fair in October 2006.
