En-case Orkney is the leather craft making project of Emma Ainsley, an artist who works sculpturally with leather and other textiles. En-case pieces have a practical and functional form as well as being colourful highly original designs with a sense of fun. The range includes handbags, cases and bangles and a bespoke case-making service is available - for anything precious that needs en-casing.

The forms and colours of the pieces are inspired by the quiet simplicity and clean lines of the Orkney landscape, and each piece is individually cut, dyed, sewn and finished by hand, by Emma.

Thicker grades of leather hide are used, with the pieces being formed sculpturally using traditional leather working techniques and hand tools -making the pieces sculptural in appearance. Each piece, then, is hand-formed in process with and informed by each individual hide, with it's unique grain and markings.

Emma Ainsley is a member of the artist co-op, The Old Sorting Room based in Stromness.
