The exploration of enamel as a material as well as researching colour, pattern and structure are the main focus points for my jewellery. I aim to combine traditional enamelling processes with more complex and challenging structures.
My work consists of brooches and neckpieces allowing me to create strong sculptural pieces with a continuous architectural theme. Inspiration ranges from the old woollen mills in my home town of Batley to the colourful slanting townhouses in Amsterdam.
I want to capture the intensity of these colours through enamel on sheet metal. I love the unpredictable process of rubbing back the different layers to reveal a rich and sophisticated colour palette creating an unusual contemporary quality.
For me, drawing plays an important role in the creation of jewellery. Sketches of scaffolding, fences, balconies and facades inspire me to explore delicate structures through drawn down square wire.
I wish to continue and explore new ideas, pushing the boundaries of what can be unique yet wearable jewellery.
