Libby's background in Visual design provided her with close contact with designed objects, which allowed her to consider their craft. After time spent in New York, she returned to Scotland to study and further her passion in Art, Craft & Design. She graduated in July 2008 and set up her own Studio practice in September 2008, currently part of NESTA’s (National endowment for science technology and the art’s) ‘starter for six’ programme and has successfully pitched to receive funding to further develop her web presence.

She designs and develops Jewellery & interior pieces with a hand on approach. “It is a firm belief of my new practice that to merely design an object through an interface is neither craft nor art, a hands-on approach/background in the design and development is key to the integrity of its origin and being of the world.”

Libby deploys the use high quality materials: after recently obtaining design registrations on a selection of her work, she has been redeveloping existing work and new designs, which include wood and plastics, for a design brand named Day2.

Libby embraces new technologies but retains handmade craft in her work. She began using cutting technologies as much of the aesthetic of her work lends itself to such, and as hand hand piercing metal consumed up to six weeks for one piece. As laser and water jet cutting is very accurate, it also means that waste metal can be recycled at the point of supply. All of her work is hand formed, press moulded and finished.

Scale is a factor in her practice as she also adapts her designs to make jewellery. Scale can be very flexible constant within her practice due to use of computer aided cutting technologies.

Most of Libby's inspiration stems from the natural and built surroundings in Scotland, often the points where man and nature meet.
