b. 1979 (UK) lives and works in Spean Bridge. Jen Deschenes studied Textiles at Glasgow School of Art.
Deschenes is a textile designer specialising in hand screen printing and embroidery. Her collections involve reworking vintage fabrics, clothes and ephemera. Deschenes' work always has a narrative at its core and she notes drawing as very important as a means of expressing this.
Deschenes' two young children have been the inspiration behind 'Mongolfiere' children's wear. The range also includes cushions and accessories. Her hand screen printed stockings come from a love of luxury wear, "I wanted to create something that could bridge the gap between craft and high fashion and show that the two are not entirely separate entities".
Each piece she makes is unique and one-off, due to the rarity of sourcing the fabrics. Therefore no item can be reproduced exactly. It is this unique nature that makes each piece so special.
