Craft MakerJulian Schmechel, Burnside of Ballintomb Furniture Makers Aberlour, Moray Established 1957 Burnside Of Ballintomb Accepts Commissions Price RangeDependent on piece in question Visitor count: 343 Father and son team, Henry and Julian Schmechel, have been based at Archiestown on Speyside since 1988, designing and handmaking traditional and contemporary pieces of hardwood furniture, mainly to commission. Almost sixty years of knowledge, skill and experience goes into the production of each piece, all of which are made using solid locally grown hardwoods, particularly Oak, Ash, Elm, Wych Elm and Sycamore. Plywoods, blockboards, and M.D.F. are never used in the construction of our furniture, and all the joints, whether mortice and tenon or dovetail, are all cut and fitted entirely by hand. All our furniture is hand polished. The making of furniture, has been part of our family for generations, each father in turn teaching his son the craft from an early age. The aim has always been to produce the best furniture possible. As a result, our work is widely acclaimed, and the visitors who come to our workshop and showroom, always comment on the fact that furniture of this quality is very hard to find. Of course we are always delighted to receive such accolades, but our success has been achieved after many years of seriously hard work. |
