I make hand thrown and individually decorated domestic tableware. I make functional pots because I enjoy seeing my work being used and enjoyed. My range includes mugs and jugs, plates and bowls, casserole dishes and tea pots and I am constantly expanding this. The decoration is based on natural patterns and textures as well as on traditional folk arts from around the world, pottery, textiles and metal work. Inspiration can come from anywhere and I am always on the look out for new ideas.

The pots are thrown in red earthenware clay and decorated with coloured slips (liquid clay mixed with metal oxides). I use the techniques of slip trailing (applying slip to the pot using a tool similar to a piping bag) and sgraffito (scratching through a layer of slip to reveal the red body below). These are traditional centuries old ways of decorating pots and lend themselves to the second area of my work, which is in making commemorative pieces for special occasions. I make loving cups and plates to commemorate weddings, two handled mugs for births and christenings, plates and bowls for prizes and mementos.
