Nethybridge Pottery was established in 1998 in a converted farm steading in a superb rural setting overlooking the valley of the river spey and backed by the Cairngorms. Potter Rob Lawson works alone from the workshop adjoining the showroom, this being the only outlet for the wares produced. The majority of the stoneware pots Rob makes are functional items handthrown on the potters wheel, but tiles and unusually shaped serving plates are slab formed.

The most stunning feature of the wares is undoubtedly the range of vibrant yet organic colours created by the glazes which rob has painstakingly developed over many years. Extensive collections of tableware and oven dishes are produced in subtle blues and greens, including plates, bowls, jugs, mugs, goblets, teapots and salt pigs. Both decorative and functional pieces such as lamp bases, large bowls and platters, vases, clocks and candlesticks are reduction fired in the oil kiln giving spectacular purples, reds, deep greens and blues, all enhanced with a semi opalescent 'chun' effect. The outstanding depth, richness and texture of the glazes has to be seen fully appreciated. Recently Rob has also been experimenting with woodash and soda glazed pieces resulting in a contrasting earthy matt finish. The interaction of clay, glaze and heat always has an unpredictable element meaning every piece coming out of the kiln is unique.
