Ian & Maggie Kinnear work together on a continually evolving range of comtemporary ceramics in stoneware: functional items such as bowls and platters, cups, mugs and jugs, lamps and candle holders, hand-thrown or slab constructed from the back bone of the range which is produced in semi-matt blue and off-white glazes alongside a smaller range of jars, vases and square dishes in a deeper glossy blue with red decoration.

The forms are strong and sculptural, and the style of glazing, non-pictorial with free brushwork decoration, owes much to Ian's original training as a painter.

The functional work is complemented by individual items from each of the artists: from Ian, larger pieces in stoneware or raku, bas relief panels in raku and related paintings inspired by trips to the remoter parts of Scotland or to other countries: from Maggie, decorative bowls, boats and bishop forms in raku, doves, grouse and light-hearted hens in stoneware. Raku glazes are rich reduced metallic coppers, blue and turquoise contrasted with matt smoked areas in varying greys, rusts and purples.

Customers can commission dinner services or individual items.

Workshops in raku firing and throwing are arranged from time to time. See website for details.
