Ruth works from her studio in the heart of Eskdale and makes two distinct ranges of ceramic work.

Gallery pieces consisting of one-off work including thrown sculptural oval bowls fired to stoneware and decorated with a gold metallic finish and sculptural ammonite forms. These pieces are either smoke-fired and suitable for in-doors only or decorated with metallic oxides, fired to stoneware and suitable for the house and garden.

In addition, hand thrown functional ceramics thrown on a traditional kick wheel and reflecting Ruth's interest in ancient ceramic forms. Decorated with specially prepared orange, deep blue, olive and warm honey glazes and fired to earthenware.

Influences include Beaker pottery, Moravian and Bohemian antiquities, Romano-British and Medieval ceramics and Staffordshire slipware. Forms include tea-bowls, dishes, jugs, urns, platters, bowls and amphora.

Ruth is also an experienced lecturer and community artist with a wide portfolio of workshops.
