Hoophoop Handmade Bags are designed and made in Scotland using a selection of felts, corduroys and cottons, as well as a substantial amount of imagination and loving care. These highly individual items grew out of a love of illustrative drawing and an interest in graphic design; experiments with colour, line and shape led to the original designs produced by Hoophoop today. Subject matter for these designs is inspired by nature, nostalgia, scientific phenomena, cartoons, the animal kingdom and many other aspects of our surrounding environment. Sometimes the medium itself can dictate the designs: the simplicity of a continuous line creates the central design for "take your pencil for a walk"; horizontal ridges of felt stitched together become "boochy bag"; layers of fabric, cut-out shapes and coloured stitching are used to build up an overall image in works such as "the way to the woods". As these examples show, each bag also has its own descriptive name which further highlights their individuality. The aim of Hoophoop is not only to introduce an element of colour and style to everyday life, but also to create a quirky world of its own, a world which you can carry around with you.
