Melted wax is brushed on to the fabric, and it resists absorption once the cloth is immersed in dye. Traditional batik work often involves simple monochromatic colour schemes, but modern techniques can produce a range of startling effects. I work on cotton nad silk using traditional Indonesian batik tools as well as brushes, wire, fork, cardboard ... to create wallhangings, cushions, waistcoats and scarves. |
