The basis of my work relies upon function. This is due to my Product Design background, and my love of objects with a purpose. Clay is a fascinating medium in which to work. It affords such a wide scope of production methods, and seems to allow limitless creativity with very few boundaries.
I have chosen to work in earthenware clay because of its versatility. Firing in an electric kiln also allows a lot of control over glazes, which is important to my work.
The forms I have chosen to produce have one thing in common. Character. I am intrigued by giving functional objects personality. The inspiration for this comes from designers like Phillipe Starck, and work done in particular for Alessi. The intention is to design in this personality before the production process starts, but allow for each objects individuality to develop during the making process.
