Trevor Leat and Alex Rigg create and build furniture using natural materials. Our combination of willow-weaving techniques and construction using Scottish hard-wood give a sense of scale and solidity. The sculptural qualities of the materials are used in combination with bold, figurative design to give a strong presence to each individual piece. The willow which we use is grown by Trevor in Galloway. He cultivates a number of different Salix varieties, each with its own function and place in our designs. The willow is dried and treated with linseed-oil in order to give it resistance to water. This woven structure will age and weather naturally and can last for many years if properly cared for.

Oak and Elm are the main timbers which we use. Their strength and durability are as important as the beautiful colours and texture of their grain. Much of our timber is from Scottish sources and all is from sustainable forestry. The timber seat is tied together using natural fibre rope; a technique with its roots in a maritime tradition. Our furniture is designed by Alex, a sculptor with experience in a broad spectrum of the Arts. Each piece of furniture is considered individually according to the shape and form of the materials chosen. Designs arise through a considered approach to the commission, allowing for the possibilities invited by location and for the requirements of the customer. Our work is equally suited to indoor and outdoor locations.

We will consider work of any size and certainly enjoy a challenge! The largest piece of work we have made is ten metres long and five metres tall.
