Craft MakerAstrid Shearer, Renfrewshire Established 2003 Weighhouse Close Accepts Commissions Price RangePrices from £15 Visitor count: 487 I make a range of contemporary and exciting handmade jewellery. I work mainly in silver, with details in gold, gold leaf and some semi-precious stones or etching. I am concerned with form and line, making forms that are rounded and comforting or sharp and challenging. Often piercing the hollow objects this creates, allowing the viewer an intriguing glimpse of the interior. The highly polished finish of the exterior contrasting with the precious interior, frequently lined with gold leaf, creates a visual metaphor for the difference between the confident ‘mask’ we often wear whilst protecting our more fragile emotional interior. My inspiration comes from many sources: boats, seed pods, and the properties of the silver itself, which lends itself to bending and folding in striking ways. |
