Albert and Louise Scott formed the Orkney stone company in 2000. Our main aim is the continued use of traditional stone working skills combined with contemporary design to create unique stone pieces for the home and garden. All our stone is hand quarried from a small local quarry. Albert then splits the stone along natural seams to allow the natural surface textures of the stone speak with its own voice. He has also designed his own tools to work the stone such as a wood turner he uses a lathe. His bowls and dishes have a rippled effect on the inside which contrasts beautifully with the natural outer surface.
Our work has been described as 'thoughtful and understated'. Simplicity of design is the key to our work. We make stone framed mirrors in various shapes, water features, wash basins, shower trays and wall lighting. Commissions are welcomed. Albert's splitting and dressing of stone are skills rapidly being lost with the introduction of sophisticated and unsympathetic stone cutting machinery.
