JAMIS: Jewellers & Metalsmiths in Scotland
I am a jeweller working across disciplines to open up the range of expression available in wearable technological products. Drawing on observations of land, sea and sky, the work uses a wide range of materials such as Perspex, Formica, latex, silicon rubber, found objects and precious metals. Increasingly, the work is being informed by Physical Computing, exploiting the electromechanical properties of textiles and other materials to explore the meaning of interaction with and through objects on the body. Groups of work always include pieces without digital functionality, drawing attention to the inherently interactive nature of jewellery, and allowing wearers to mix modes of communication. The work is also therefore suitable for different scales of exhibition and installation, and non-computational pieces are available for sale.
