Using the specialist media of papermaking, printmaking and handmade books, I provide workshops for many organizations, undertake commissions and continue the development of personal artwork. The most significant stage in my career as has been the development of PULP: Paper Arts Workshop. This space has had a positive impact on my creative practice in many ways, as it ensures the creation of work without limitation, provides an ideal base from which to attract commissions and collaborative projects and offers the technical facilities necessary to support adventurous, larger-scale projects and produce quality outcomes.

Recently, I managed a collaborative project which saw the creation of a limited edition of handmade books made in response to nva organization’s ‘The Hidden Gardens’ project based at Tramway, Glasgow. The commission involved the production of 32 books individual to each region of Scotland and made use of local plant material and drawings contributed by schools nation-wide to create an ‘almanac’ of experiences and observations of special places. Now completed, the ‘Almanac of Wild Things’ is due to be launched late Autumn.

At present I have several commissions underway, one of which is the creation of handmade books for South Lanarkshire Council. The final object aims to bring together the outcomes of several short residencies and involves professionals from a variety of disciplines, such as musicians, countryside rangers and, my part, bringing the art of papermaking and bookmaking to the participants. The work is titled ‘xylophonics’ and is due to be completed and launched in October 2005. I recently travelled to Japan for professional development and am currently working on an application for the next Holland Paper Biennale to exhibit handmade paper-works.
