I live in central Fife and retired from teaching in 2004 to become a full-time artist.
I have always preferred to paint in watercolour 'en plein air', but over the last few years I have been creating works of art by painting with textiles and threads. These, on completion, are mounted and framed for display.
I am inspired by nature in its varied forms,and am particularly drawn to the Scottish landscape and coastline. Holidays in cities such as Venice, Florence and Barcelona have extended this range, but the scenery of Islay, visited for the last two years, has been even more fruitful.I also enjoy wild flowers and hedgerows, adding stumpwork insects to these pieces.
A piece is usually begun by the image being painted, printed or batiked on to a base fabric. it is then built up in layers using textiles (found and dyed), free machine embroidery, hand embroidery, beading and any other embellishments deemed appropriate.
I work primarily from my own inspiration, but am happy to accept commissions from individuals or companies.
