Whether it’s working with private or commercial clients my pieces tend to complement their immediate environment. Previous clients have included, St. Mary’s Cathedral – Glasgow, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, New Opportunities Fund, SEPA, Macmillan Cancer Research, The National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Business in the Community, Borders New Ways.
My inspiration from design is quite often drawn from the nature of the timber itself, from the physical attributes of a piece of raw timber to the character and the temper the wood suggests.
When I am lacking in timbers with natural character it allows me to focus more on controlling the overall design a specific piece will radiate. This normally takes the shape of functional contemporary furniture design predominantly in indigenous hardwood occasionally complimented by glass, metal, stone and illuminations.
One of the many things I feel provokes thought into my design stems from the natural and built environment that surrounds us.
