I was born in Glasgow in 1981 and travelled to many places before settling in Dundee. From an early age I have been interested in various art forms. During my schools years I enjoyed drawing, painting and sculpture but discovered my real passion lay with jewellery and metalwork. I decided to pursue this further by attending Duncan of Jordanstone, University of Dundee where I graduated in 2004 with an Honors Degree in Jewellery and Metal Design.
The inspiration for my work comes from various different forms and the structure of mushrooms and toadstools. Being fascinated with their surface texture I started to alter spore prints (pattern produced when leaving mushrooms on paper for several hours) which I had taken from different types of mushrooms. I needed to transfer my designs from the spore prints I had developed, onto my pieces. After trying several techniques I decided to use engraving, it gave my pieces a subtle and interesting element. My work is mainly made of silver and gold plate but I have recently been using oxidization to add further depth and contrast to my designs. I have also developed jewellery by molding wax shapes resembling my mushroom inspired designs into silver cast pieces.
