Craft MakerIngrid ArthurMy work is based on the archeology and natural history of Shetland. Being a Shetlander, I draw heavily on my roots there for inspiration. I am very interested in the traditions and local crafts of the islands such as peat cutting as well as knitting and fishing. The islands also have a fascinating history of broch building going back two thousand years at least together with trade links in tin with Cornwall. The landscape and light is also unique and like the weather is ever changing. Tapestry weaving provides me with a medium to create visual stories, continuing the living history of the islands. |
