Siobhan has been working with glass for approx.10 years and has a BA Hons specialising in Architectural Glass. She is Hon. Secretary of the Scottish Glass Society and exhibits regularly. She is happy to discuss potential commissions.

Mouth-blown Glass is an intrinsically beautiful material. The fragility of the material and the subtle range of hues, lend themselves to creating flower petals and leaves. Siobhan Healy is interested in using details of plant anatomy which assume an abstract quality. She has researched plants with medicinal properties and the folklore associated with herbal remedies. This organic imagery can be used in healing spaces such as clinics and hospitals and in private residences. The intention is that the work will connect with people on a deeper level, to evoke distant memories and to conjure up reassuring feelings invoked by nature.

Symbolism is an important element in representing the ethereal style that Siobhan Healy aims for in her work. She uses symbolic botanical imagery to express mystical ideas, emotions, and states of mind. She incorporates silver, fusing the metal into the surface of the glass. Symbolically, silver represents growth, the cycles of the moon and fertility. The silver works in relation to the glass in more than one way, it can be dark when the light shines through the glass from behind, while when the lit from the front, the silver is reflective.
