My pieces are representations of stars, galaxies and nebulae in outer space. They are either direct translations from photograph to enamel or are the result of abstraction through materials exploration of the image. I enjoy working with enamel because it has wonderful and unpredictable properties - some of which are very restricting but others of which allow amazing effects to be achieved. It is experimenting with its endless possibilities which fascinates me.
I am also interested in juxtaposing materials. My use of stones in my pieces explores this and simultaneously sets off the piece. Textures and finishes on the silver are also carefully chosen to complement the enamel.
I hope to study enamel more in the near future, gaining a fuller understanding of its behaviour and the effect of inclusions. My source material will be widened and so shall my range of final products be. I should also like to further pursue the effects of complementary materials and use more radical forms for the outcomes of this research.
