My collaboration with master glassblowers at Orrefors and Edinburgh crystal as a glasssware designer; informs my creative process when making my sculptural pieces. My studio work is based on the handcrafted sensitivity of glassmaking; inspired by organic and naturally repeating forms. My work shows balance; precision and great delicacy. Minimal amounts of cutting and engraving are used working with the simplicity of the form to create a soft sensitive aesthetic.
My work is mainly concerned with the idea of bringing two materials: glass and porcelain together in convergence. My work represent the ways in which the artist deviates from the norm to create new and innovative work; this divergence from traditional practise translates the crossovers that occur between glass and ceramics. Glass and porcelain are materials with many common qualities. They are both made in similar ways; and transformed into functional objects. But it is their transparency/translucency and their reaction to light which intrigues me. The qualities of the materials when light passes through them to reveal inner luminousity inspires me.
