Penny works in a studio/workshop - a shed - attached to her home, 2 miles from Aviemore, throwing pots and glost firing them in a small electric kiln. She makes mostly functional domesticware (with a tourist market in mind), that are hand thrown in terracotta and glazed predominantly with blues, greens and a rich turquoise. The glazes are allowed to run and merge freely, so no two pots are exactly alike, and the result is a spontaneous effect of colour and movement, illustrating Penny's enjoyment in handling the colour as well as the clay.

She specialises in jugs and mugs of all shapes, large breakfast cups, goblets and decanters, and big flat platters. The forms are traditional and functional, though tending towards lightness and fineness within the terracotta medium.
