A professional sculptor for over 30 years I also undertake commissions for individually designed hand cut inscriptions (called Lettercutting) and low relief carvings in stone. Work comprises memorials, plaques and architectural details.
I work closely with clients to design a unique piece of work and advise on all aspects of the process. Advice is given on the practical details regarding graveyards/cemeteries and approaching local authorities; chossing stone, suitable lettering, wording and decoration. As many of my commissions are not local I do not undertake to erect the stones but employ a specialist in the area where the stone is to be sited.
The traditional stone cut letter is a 'V' shaped incision into stone. There is another form of Lettercutting called Raised Work, which is particular to Scotland and I specialise in this form. In Raised Work the letter is left proud and the background cut away.
