Digitata is a textile design company based in the small town of Stromness, in Orkney. Led by Glasgow School of Art graduate, Sarah Johnston, the company produces contemporary interior accessories, canvas prints, scarves, table linen and cards.
Inspiration comes from a variety of sources including the beautiful sea, sky and landscape of the Orkney Islands which is combined with a fascination for pattern and experimenting with different techniques. Using digital photography as a starting point, Sarah develops her ideas into designs for screen printing and jacquard weaving. With digital imagery central to our work, Digitata also produces a range of digitally printed photographs and stylised designs which are available on stretched canvasses and art papers.
From our studio in Stromness, Digitata hand print onto a variety of natural fabrics including cotton, linen, silk and wool using silk screen printing. These fabrics then go on to become a variety of handmade products including cushions, throws, scarves and table linen.
Our jacquard range is produced by a specialist silk mill that has been weaving furnishing fabrics of the highest quality for over 100 years. Our silk and cotton jacquard fabrics are then made into cushions and throws in Orkney.
Commissions are welcome.
