We are often asked about the inspiration behind our Celtic Legend Folk and like all good old yarns
it starts with..."Once upon a time"

Once upon a time an old Scottish crofter on a journey across rough and rugged country was forced to
take shelter from a sudden storm in a rocky cave. His inquisitive nature led him to explore his
temporary abode, and just imagine his excitement when from centuries of dust on a high ledge he
unearthed bundles of archaic scrolls, telling of a forgotten world back in the midst of time.

In the years that followed he devoted his spare hours to deciphering the writings which revealed to him a
mystical world of wizards, trolls and dwarfs who dwelt in the hills and forests of Ancient Scotland.

We at the Swinton Pottery have been entrusted with this precious legacy and are re-creating these
wonderful characters of long, long ago. Using combinations of the finest porcelain and stoneware clays
each piece is painstakingly modelled and glazed by hand. It is then fired in our kilns at 1260 degrees Celcius
to produce a most robust and colourful creation.
