The use of composition has been my primary source of inspiration for my work, whether it is the positioning of a model in a photograph or the evocative arrangement of objects in their surroundings. I am particularly interested in assemblage art as the vast array of work gives a certain depth to the word “collage”, each piece having a somewhat narrative meaning depending on their content and the exact placing of the internal objects.
I tend to use familiar, everyday found objects, which may not be artistically important as a whole, but through deconstructing the object into many parts and combining them with metal to construct a new compositional design, a new relationship will form and the original object will gain a new significance. Recently, I have been incorporating more simple everyday objects, such as buttons, camera film and measuring tape. These items have been integrated into designs with metals such as silver, to give an interesting hint of detail.
I like the idea of a viewer not knowing what my work is constructed from at first glance, but being intrigued and wanting to look closer, asking questions and taking their own meaning from the answers.
