Using fine metalwork techniques taken from jewellery making, forge work and industrial processes I make a range of modern domestic - and garden - constructed metalwork.
I currently work mostly with mild steel wire – fence wire - but also combine other metals and found objects. The main strand of my work is a range of fireguards and log baskets in a number of styles for instance exploded leaf and flower patterns and more abstract patterns utilising wire left over from other projects. Nothing is ever discarded and I like to base my designs directly on the materials at hand. Recycling is important in my work not just in terms of waste but also for authenticity of material.
It’s a messy dirty business and it’s hard physical work. Everything is intensively hand built but finish is very important and the objects I make are never as rough as the materials involved. My contemporary designs range from limited editions to one-off commissions.
