At present all my work is hand woven on a 32 shaft computerised Louet Megado 130 Loom. I design and make hand woven fabric in my studio in central Edinburgh.
Inspiration is taken from the Scottish landscape and seascapes that surround me. Yarn types tend to be from Scottish based manufacturers, these have included Shetland yarn, mercerised cotton, dip-dyed silk linen and lambs wool.
In my work I am exploring the idea of block drafts and the potential use of floats and the shrink qualities of differing yarn types to express a surface in the finishing off process.
I largely weave fabric that cannot be mass produced commercially due to the complex nature of the weave structures that I employ.
I produce one collection a year which is shown at national and international trade events. I have no minimum order and have a degree of flexibility where individual buyers can select colourways to suit there own tastes using my weave structures, in this way I can produce both one off pieces and small batch production collections.
Due to the nature of the manufacturing process my work tends to sell through the higher end of the market.
