craftscotland maker membership survey 2005 - topline results
Back in February 2005 we began our research programme. This helps to identify key trends and priorities for our work. For the first piece of research, we invited makers registered on the craftscotland directory to take part in a online survey. Here are some of the findings that interested us:
- Over two-thirds of the sample were using a website to promote their business
- A third were building an email mailing list on their website
- A fifth were taking orders online
- Half of the sample was using dialup internet
- craftscotland registered makers are selling in Scotland, USA and then England
- The sample wanted to improve their marketing, selling, creative development and pricing skills
- Turnover was on average less than £10,000, but 40% of the sample were turning over more
Further research, along with specific surveys to find out the key issues for galleries, retailers and craft buyers will be conducted soon. We are happy to report in person the research findings to your craft guild or association - contact enquiries at craftscotland dot org to arrange. craftscotland held an AGM in September 2005 to find out more about the issues that mattered to you. |
