Marion Kane – Silver

A graduate of Glasgow College of Art, Marion produces silver pieces which are distinguished by their simple and fluid forms. The simplicity of the form allows the surface quality to be appreciated to its full potential. Her aim is to encourage people to hold her work and explore the surface, getting away from the idea that silver is too precious to use.

In 2003 Marion was one of only five graduates selected from throughout the UK by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in London to receive a free stand at the annual Goldsmiths’ Fair along with a £1,000 precious metal bursary. The award was given to encourage and promote emerging young talent.

She was commissioned to produce two vases for the Bute House Millennium Silver Collection - find out more about the collection in our news story.

In 2003 she designed the Robert Burns Humanitarian Award for the Burns Festival in Ayshire.

As well as completing several commissions she has exhibited widely including 100% Proof touring exhibition and Time for Tea: Teapots for the 21st Century at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.

She is one of ten silversmiths paired with ten celebrities to create a unique collection called Silver of the Stars which visits the National Museum of Scotland as part of Silver - Made in Scotland from 25 January to 28 April 2008.
