Frances Priest

Frances Priest has an ongoing body of work called ‘Gifts and Occupations,’ which explore her experiences of pattern and ornament she encountered when travelling. The objects use the language of ornament as a means of understanding place, culture, and identity.

This collection has been expanded for Meet Your Maker, and will be used as a catalyst for discussion between audience and artist.

Frances will run eight sessions, in which members of the public are invited to investigate her works: to handle, group, and rearrange some of the objects, creating a direct link between artist, artwork and audience.

Places for these workshops are limited and can be booked in advance from the National Museums of Scotland on 0131 225 7534.

A special film of Frances creating her ceramic pieces and talking about her inspiration is also on display in the gallery. View the video online.
