Meet Your Maker

Leah Black

Leah is a concept led jeweller based in Glasgow, who graduated with a first class honours from The Glasgow School of Art in 2008.

Leah's work is informed and influenced by old fashioned ideals and objects which she interprets in a modern way. Considering the meaning and symbolism of buying, giving and receiving plants and flowers for her new body of work, Leah uses precious metals and semi-precious stones to illustrate the Victorian language and symbolism of flowers. She aims to push boundaries and to challenge her own and others perceptions of contemporary jewellery whilst creating wearable, desirable and lasting pieces.

She is also part of an innovative and forward thinking design collective based in Glasgow, The Gin Palace, which aims to showcase and sell the work of talented, cutting edge designers from or with a connection to Scotland.

During Meet Your Maker at the National Museum Leah created custom made pins taken from photographs of visitors posing as ‘monuments’ on a plinth. After proving a huge success, the plinth travelled to Timespan for visitors there to enjoy and form part of their own craft.
