Leah Black is fascinated with the relationship between object, memory and forgetting. Her degree work began as an investigation into forgetting, into the artefacts and objects we create, collect, use and surround ourselves with so as not to forget.
For Meet Your Maker, Leah will create artefacts to assist in the retention of memories. Inspired by the monuments on plinths around Edinburgh and Glasgow, Leah will create a collection of pieces which will put craft up on a pedestal.
For her living exhibition, Leah is asking members of the public to strike a pose on an empty plinth. These poses will be captured and then turned into a silhouette, which will be turned into a stunning monumental pin in brass.
Each pin made will be placed on an otherwise empty plinth on the exhibition wall, becoming part of the exhibition itself. Contributors to the plinth project will also have the chance to buy their monumental piece of craft.
