Scottish Designers make their Mark at First Origin

Twenty five Scottish designer makers are heading to London this month to take part in Origin: the London Craft Fair, the new flagship event being launched by the Crafts Council to replace Chelsea Crafts Fair.

The new event will be housed in a specially commissioned pavilion built over the Somerset House courtyard with over 300 exhibitors selected by a specialist panel of judges, including design journalist Dominic Lutyens and director of Craftspace Touring Deirdre Figueiredo.

The event takes place over two weeks with a different selection of designers each week.

The Scottish exhibitors during the first week are sculptural willow weaver Lizzie Farey, woven textiles designer James Donald, interior textiles designer Sarah Campbell of Mogwaii, textile designers Tait and Style and Laura Anderson, wallpaper designer Johanna Basford, wood artist Fiona Allardyce-Lewis, book artist Rachel Hazell, furniture designer Adrian McCurdy, ceramicist Andrea Walsh and jewellers Marianne Anderson, Emma Chalmers, Grainne Morton, Joanne Thompson and Georgia Wiseman.

During week two Scotland will be represented by basketmaker Lise Bech, silversmith Shimara Carlow, hat designer Rosy Naylor of Hatform, jewellers Donna Barry, Kaz Robertson, Carla Edwards, Alison Macleod, Hannah Louise Lamb, Dot Sim and Naoko Yoshizawa.

Origin: the London Craft Fair takes place at Somerset House in October - week one: 3 to 8 October and week two: 10 to 15 October 2006.  Tickets are available from the Crafts Council.
