My name is Richard Douglas, I am a woodcarver in the time-honoured tradition of the craft. I am based in Menstrie, in the Braveheart Country of Central Scotland, near Stirling. It gives me great satisfaction to think that a carver from the eighteenth century would be able to step into my workshop, pick up a gouge and feel entirely at home.
The range of goods is all hand-carved and includes house name plaques, boat name- and trail boards, character and decorative mirror frames, caricature carvings, small animals and even cuckoo clocks. I also make turned and carved items: quaichs, bowls, candlesticks and so forth. I welcome commissions for all sorts of carved objects, the quirkier the better.
I teach small groups of up to two adults in my own studio and larger groups through workshops in co-operation with Clackmannanshire Council.
You can introduce yourself to me by using one of my contact numbers or through the website. If you would like to visit, you'd be very welcome but please get in touch in advance.
