About Claudia Escobar - Papa Wes'ray

Personal Statement

I am an international awarded Fashion Designer/Investigator/researcher (TIME magazine - coolest invention of year 2003 in Fashion).

I won this award for developing the use of salmon skins as an alternative to traditional leathers (Recycling).

I utilize Fashion as a tool to help people come out of poverty by promoting their culture in sustainable modern ways, for social and economic development.

I have been living in Edinburgh since the year 2004, when I came to Scotland to develop a project with the support of Scottish executive (Tanning of salmon skins in Scotland).

At present, I am working in the development of a new project for textile development in cooperation with Scottish Government, Harris Weavers, as well as other Scottish companies.
This project will involve the participation of the community as a whole as well as rescuing heritage, traditions of weaving , folklore (Tradition, innovation and sustainability ).

This is my latest invention/design, in which I have applied science, technology and design (craft), in order to create an object that is conceptually Bauhaus -art at service to humankind.

Copper shawls created and designed by fashion designer Claudia Escobar are handmade to order .

Knitted to order by a group of urban Scottish women.
