About Anne Murray

Personal Statement

Now living in the North East of Scotland, Anne studied at both Glasgow School of Art and Grays, Aberdeen graduating in 2010.

In 1997 Anne was awarded a Churchill Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Her travel award took her to Japan where she developed her interest in Eastern ceramics, Japanese aesthetics and design. This brief introduction to Japan formed the foundation of her approach to design and making.

Anne has recently been awarded the William Littlejohn Award for Excellence and Innovation in water-based media by the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh and has exhibited throughout Scotland and the UK.

Her ceramics are a personal and permanent response to places and the moments of randomness and impermanence that take place in them; often starting with a walk and including printing and writing haiku.

Through this process her printed and constructed vessels make these fleeting moments into tangible touchstones or memory holders. Inviting the viewer to slow down, engage with her work and reflect on their own surrounding in a new way.

She is interested in collaborations, residencies and commissions.
