About Me

Personal Statement

I am a textile artist, designer/maker, I work with fabric, collage, paint and stitch, and aim to transform basic raw materials into flowing abstract compositions reflecting my love of the rural landscape and importance of the natural world.

My ‘Studio Quilts’ have been purchased by the many museums in the UK and USA. They are my very special wall hangings, which can take as long as nine months to complete. I also occasionally make practical quilts that I label ‘Quiltline’ – these are my designer/maker range, and I also make smaller ‘Stitch Drawings’.

I live in the Scottish Borders, with my husband, the Sculptor, Charles Poulsen. Once a year we hold an OPEN STUDIO exhibition, in early August. In 2012 it will run from 3rd – 6th August. We make full use of the Steading, where we live and display work inside and out. Each year we invite a guest artist to join us. In 2012 Nigel Ross, who makes large scale wooden sculpture, will show with us. To see more details about my work and our Open Studio please visit:- www.paulineburbidge-quilts.com

Also in 2012 I will have a large retrospective exhibition of my work which will be shown at The Festival of Quilts, (16-19 August) at the NEC in Birmingham. It will then go to the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York, during September, October and November. This will be a rare chance to see works collected together from my 36 year long career.
